Below are some of the lovely reviews we have received from past guests…
Perfect large holiday accommodation + Lovely spacious property. We were a group of 3 families consisting of 5 adults and 5 children. Plenty of space for us all to spend time together, and also have some privacy. Perfectly clean. Best equipped holiday accommodation we’ve ever had, literally everything we needed was provided. Weather was a bit chilly, but the accommodation was well heated, which was lovely after being out for the day. Beautiful location, we all enjoyed seeing a deer walk by on two occasions. We visited Landmark, The Highland Wildlife Centre, Aviemore and the Highland Folk Museum. All were very convenient to get to from the house. Brilliant value for money. We would recommend to others and will return again ourselves. –
Nothing recommended to change!
Netherwood provided the perfect setting for our family celebrations in March 2024 (we were a party of three generations and the house provided everything we could all need). Spacious, homely and well equipped we enjoyed aga-cooked meals in the large dining room and cosy cups of tea around the open fire, whilst the kids played games of hide and seek in the house or made dens in the garden. The setting is excellent, and Glen Banchor on the doorstep is stunning and easily accessible by all our party. Plenty of space for parking and the electric charge point was a bonus for us. We’ll definitely hope to return in the future!
We all had a fantastic week at Netherwood House in Newtonmore… really cosy and beautiful big house in a great location. Beds were very comfy and the kids loved sharing the bunk room with their friends! So much to do in the area and we loved the walks straight from the house and further afield. Easy walk to pub and shop. Great location for Cairngorm mountains, we were first on the slopes for a brilliant day of skiing. Love the Aga in the kitchen and the big, sociable dining table! Garden brilliant for kids too
‘We loved the size and space in the house – plenty of bedrooms and living space. The dining room became the centre of operations with the children during the day (unless they were in the play room) and then the grownups could retire to the tranquil living room in the evening. All the rooms were decorated to a high standard and the kitchen was very well equipped with everything we could possibly need. The house was warm – especially the kitchen with the Aga. We enjoyed trips to Aviemore for skiing and to feed the reindeer. We also had a great day out at the Highland Zoo and numerous walks right from the door. Would highly recommend to big family groups.‘
“Netherwood House is the quintessential escape to the Highlands, a true oasis of Scottishdom. The real McCoy from the warmth of the aga after a brisk walk up the Glen in the cool of the air, or a night of reciting Scottish poetry and song around the dining table over a glass of malt. You might even bump into Rob, a true highlander, enjoying pipe music and no tourism in sight. Sl àinte mh òr.”
‘We spent a wonderful week at Netherwood. The house is just amazing…beautifully appointed, spacious and comfortable. The owners have thought of everything to make the home a great place for a holiday. Our family group ranged in age from 17 years to 90 years and there was so much for all to enjoy in the local area. We have already booked for next year!’
“Netherwood is a truly spectacular house with everything it’s guests could hope and wish for. The house and grounds are situated in a wonderful setting providing the best welcome the Highlands can offer.
Cleaning, furnishings and decor are done to the highest standards. A special mention to the housekeeper Catherine who was extremely helpful and was able to provide extra towels on request.
We recommend the excellent local golf course and the Wildcat trail/search is a must. (It is worth mentioning that due to Covid, most attractions need to be booked in advance).
“We booked Netherwood House for our annual golf trip and it was the perfect base for 3 days of golf in the Highlands. It is a spacious house with enough rooms and beds to accommodate our party of 8. Good food choices in the village; we had a great night in the Glen Hotel and a decent Indian carry out. We would definitely recommend Netherwood for similar groups of golfers or cyclists.”
“Netherwood House is an imposing, spacious period home with beautifully restored original period features but it also includes all of the latest modern conveniences and appliances that you would expect in a top level holiday rental property.
We arrived to find a bottle of red wine as our welcome gift and the Aga was ready for use – warm and inviting, the heart of the home. The kitchen is equipped with every piece of equipment / utensil that you could ever expect to need and, for those that are not familiar with cooking on the Aga, there is also an electric hob and oven. The built-in fridge, freezer & dishwasher are housed in this modern kitchen along with a washing machine and tumble dryer.
The bedrooms are bright and airy with comfortable beds and ample beddding and towels. Both bathrooms have showers and are spacious and accommodating. The living room has a wonderful open fireplace for cozy evenings of relaxation and the dining room has plenty of room to accommodate a house full of guests.
The house is located in beautiful woodland on the edge of the open glen, but is also just 10 minutes walk from the village center which hosts a grocery shop, restaurants, pubs and various gift shops/ cafes.
We enjoyed days out at Aviemore, Boat of Garten and the Scottish Game Fair as well as summiting Ben Macdui and Creag Meagaidh. The weather was bright, sunny and warm with just the occasional shower here and there.
We highly recommend Netherwood House as a home from home, right in the centre of Scotland. You could have day trips to Fort William, Aberdeen, Inverness or Perth from here but there is actually so much to do, right on the door step, that you would never need drive that far.
We have had a wonderful week and will be leaving with very fond memories of our time at Netherwood House with friends and family.”
“Upon arriving at Newtonmore we were no more prepared for the snow than anyone. My family enjoyed a very picturess week staying at Netherwood.
From the friendly gardner to the ever so helpful towns people, we were overwhelmed with the hospitality.
The snow made our Christmas a very special one, as did Netherwood with its log fires and everything you needed… Home from home we call it now as it was everything we could have asked for and more.
The games room sold it too all the children and well the kitchen sold it to all the women ha ha. We spent quite a few hours in that kitchen cooking and well sittng around.
I must say a huge thank you to Rob, who had it not have been for him we may have never of got up the glen and into the house on the first day… But even after we were in he lent a hand and well his efforts did not go un-noticed.
From all the Thompsons and Harbinsons, I would just like to say a huge thankyou and a very Happy New Year.
We will be returning, and just so you know i have let all my Army friends have your website address, it is the perfect location for outdoor activites and well for some of the families to have a well earned break.”
“We have just returned from a wonderful week at Netherwood and I felt that I wanted to say how much we enjoyed the house. We all settled in very quickly even the 18 month old. The house is very comfortable and provided us with everything we could possibly need, the one thing not under your control was the weather and even that was great, so good that we were not able to benefit from the log fire. I realised a long held wish to cook on an Aga and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.”
“We thought that the house was absolutely fantastic. What an amazing setting with the birch wood opposite and the sound of birdsong the minute you opened the front door to the outside world.
Having the Aga in the kitchen was a God send for drying out all the snow gear on the frame above and I soon got the hang of cooking with it.
The boys were so pleased to both be able to bags a top bunk each in the bunk bed room whilst we thought the front room (blue) was just perfect.
The bathroom was beautifully done too and we’d have quite happily taken the bath home with us if not for XS baggage charges – the boys thought it great not to have to fight over a tap end!
We really had a fantastic week and the position of Netherwood was so convenient, we walked down to the Glen Hotel for dinner a few nights when we still had the energy left after a busy day out.
We all had great fun trying to spot red squirrels too!
What a lovely part of Scotland – we’re hooked!!”
